Top 5 Net Payout Yield Stocks For 2015

They say what good for the goose is good for the gander. Does that same logic apply to mergers and acquisitions?

In the case of Men Wearhouse (MW) and Jos. A. Bank Clothier (JOSB), it would seem so.

Today, Men Warehouse launched a surprise offer to buy the smaller rival for $55 a share, or $1.2 billion. The bid comes just two weeks after Jos. A. Bank abandoned its own unsolicited bid for Men Warehouse.

On Oct. 8, Jos. A. Bank offered to pay $2.3 billion for its larger rival. Arguing that a merger would produce cost savings and the new combined company would benefit from scale. But Men Warehouse rejected the offer as too low. And two weeks ago, Jos. A. Bank announces it was giving up the chase.

But apparently, Men Warehouse sees value in a merger. Stifel Nicolaus analyst Richard A. Jaffe writes:

Given that JOSB has previously stated that they would be willing to be acquired by MW, we anticipate that JOSB will give MW offer considerable consideration. Previously, we did not believe that MW was interested in buying JOSB; that they had numerous initiatives in place and did not believe that MW management valued the JOSB promotional model highly. The situation has changed. The MW board, facing what we believe was pressure from a large shareholder, took a closer look at the opportunity and chose to bid for JOSB.

Using my assumptions, the common of Agenus might be worth about $7.00 per share in early 2014 based on the royalties from the Glaxo vaccines and the net operating loss carry forward even if every other asset in the company were valued at zero. However, there may be substantial value in Agenus' internal vaccine programs in recurrent and newly diagnosed glioblastoma and the genital herpes vaccine. Based on a comparison to peer companies like Northwest Biotherapeutics (NWBO) and ImmunoCellular Therapeutics (IMUC), I believe that the internal programs at Agenus currently may be worth $150 million or $4.45 per share. Adding this to the value of the MAGE A-3 vaccine could produce a stock price of $11.00 in early 2014.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

$7.6 billion IT services firm Computer Sciences (CSC) has been doing some consolidating of its own for the last few months. Shares have been stuck trading between resistance at $54 a share and support down at $50 a share since mid-July. But despite its sideways bent, there's a trade to be made in CSC right now.

Right now, CSC is forming a rectangle pattern, a consolidation setup that's formed by a pair of horizontal resistance and support level at those $54 and $50 price levels. The rectangle pattern gets its name because it basically "boxes in" shares between those two levels. The signal to watch is the break outside of that box. Support at $50 has some extra strength because it's a level that was previously a ceiling for shares back in March and again in May. That's not uncommon for a round number like $50, but it makes an upside breakout a lot more likely from here.

Momentum, measured by 14-day RSI, has moved into neutral mode in the last week, clearing the way for upside without the risk of shares becoming overbought. If shares of CSC can hold a bid above $54, it's time to buy.

    Thursday
ZAGG (NASDAQ: ZAGG  ) has been a brutal disappointment for investors who thought they were getting a thinking investor's play on the smartphone and tablet revolutions. The maker of protective screens, keyboard covers, and other mobile-gadget accessories has fallen hard after hosing down its outlook twice over the past three months.

    Why Corning?
The company is a giant in specialty glasses and fiber optics. Its fortunes are influenced these days by smartphone and tablet makers such as Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) , which use its glass in their displays. Corning's Gorilla Glass is so strong that it has put a crimp in the business of screen-protecting companies such as ZAGG (NASDAQ: ZAGG  ) . Some worry about Apple's interest in sapphire, though, as it's even stronger than Gorilla Glass (though more expensive) and could threaten Corning.
