Hot Diversified Bank Stocks To Watch For 2014

Dividend stocks outperform non-dividend-paying stocks over the long run. It happens in good markets and bad, and the benefit of dividends can be quite striking -- dividend payments have made up about 40% of the market's average annual return from 1936 to the present day. But few of us can invest in every single dividend-paying stock on the market, and even if we could, we might find better gains by being selective. That's why we'll be pitting two of the Dow Jones Industrial Average's (DJINDICES: ^DJI  ) dividend payers against each other today to find out which Dow stock is the true dividend champion. Let's take a closer look at our two contenders now.

Tale of the tape
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT  ) is a 13-year veteran of the Dow. Hailing from Redmond, Wash., Microsoft is the world's largest software company thanks to its early successes in operating systems. Microsoft's story -- more specifically, founder Bill Gates' story -- has been made into a TV movie, and the company became the face of the dot-com boom of the 1990s, when it rose to claim the title of "most valuable company in history." Although Microsoft's market cap is less than half of what it once was, the company's financials have kept growing superbly, allowing it to easily pay out dividends for years.

  • [By Anthony Mirhaydari]

For now, I continue to recommend investors maintain a cautious stance, focusing on the buying interest coming into safe-haven assets like U.S. Treasury bond and precious metals while booking profits in biotech stocks that have been red hot this month. The leveraged Direxion 3x Treasury Bond Bull (TMF) is up nearly 7% in my Edge Letter Sample Portfolio since it was added on Jan. 10. I just sold Tower Hill Mines (THM) and Rosetta Genomics (ROSG) for gains of 46% and 18% respectively.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

With no revenues, and therefore no profits, International Tower Hill Mines Ltd (NYSEMKT:THM) shouldn't qualify as "investment worthy" in any way, shape, or form. Indeed, the near-100% loss that THM shares have suffered since early 2011 might scare off even the gutsiest of traders. Yet, there's something undeniably bullish about this stock right now.

Small cap stocks Derma Sciences Inc (NASDAQ: DSCI), Oculus Innovative Sciences, Inc (NASDAQ: OCLS)and Arch Therapeutics Inc (OTCBB: ARTH) specialize or have a focus on wound carea medical problem that has plagued mankind since the dawn of time. After all and think back to our Civil War when disease along with infections resulting from improper wound care probably killed more soldiers than actual battles. Even today, infection after surgery or after receiving a wound or injury of any kind is still a constant threat. And then there is the scaring that can result from any sort of invasive surgery or injury. With those thoughts in mind, here are three small cap wound care stocks trying address these problems:
