DELAFIELD, Wis. (Stockpickr) -- There isn't a day that goes by on Wall Street when certain stocks trading for $10 a share or less don't experience massive spikes higher. Traders savvy enough to follow the low-priced names and trade them with discipline and sound risk management are banking ridiculous coin on a regular basis.
Just take a look at some of the hot movers in the under-$10 complex from Wednesday, including Intellicheck Mobilisa (IDN), which skyrocketed higher by 76.5%; CardioNet (BEAT), which soared higher by 38.2%; Homex Development (HXM), which spiked higher by 29.1%; and Samson Oil & Gas (SSN), which jumped higher by 25.2%. You don't even have to catch the entire move in lower-priced stocks such as these to make outsized returns when trading.
One low-priced stock that recently exploded higher was biotechnology player Idera Pharmaceuticals (IDRA), which I highlighted in June 20's "5 Stocks Under $10 Set to Soar" at 74 cents per share. I mentioned in that piece that shares of IDRA had been trading in a tight consolidation chart pattern, with the stock trending between 60 cents on the downside and 83 cents on the upside. This stock was just starting to bounce right off its 50-day moving average at 68 cents per share. That bounce was quickly pushing shares of IDRA within range of triggering a major breakout trade above its 200-day moving average at 76 cents per share and above some key resistance levels at 82 to 83 cents per share.

Teradyne (NYSE: TER ) was the third S&P 500 component turning in impressive gains, up 5% after announcing that China's Acetec Semiconductor had placed an order for 20 J750EX-HD systems capable of digital wafer sorting and final testing of mobile connectivity devices. Deals are always a good thing for Teradyne, but the unfortunate aspect of building more efficient control equipment is that it's driving down the cost of all manufacturing processes over time, which means innovate constantly or earn less money for Teradyne. However, with Teradyne's $2.80 in net cash per share and as it sits at just 10 times forward earnings, I'd be intrigued enough to suggest adding Teradyne to your Watchlist.

Teradyne (NYSE: TER ) , a test equipment and semiconductor producer, slipped 6.1% as technology companies made for some of the worst performers of the day, declining 2.4% as a sector. The stock's woes today weren't much helped by the negative momentum it's had in the last month, when Teradyne saw more than 12% declines; the first-quarter earnings announcement is set for next Wednesday. Though Teradyne's slide shouldn't be overlooked, the most notable laggard of the day is yet to come.
